Autodesk Alias Studio 2023 New Features
1. Overview of modeling improvements (new features in 2023)
In this release, we’ve added two new subdivision modeling tools, including the Subdivision Reform tool for automatically generating subdivision models from meshes, and modifications that allow you to vary crease sharpness and smooth crease gradients Subdivide crease tool. Other new additions include an improved round tool, which now generates curvature-continuous fillet edges, and provides the ability to box-select input edges.
4. New modify subdivision crease tool
The new Modify Subdivision Creases tool lets you edit creases in subdivision objects, including creases created in other applications such as Autodesk Maya.
With this tool, you can modify the gradient between creased and non-creased areas of topology. Adjust the sharpness of creases, and reshape creases by offsetting their positions. See About Modifying Crease Gradients.
Modify crease gradients with smooth transitions
You can now modify crease gradients by adding smooth transitions between crease and non-crease areas of subdivision topology. With the Modify Crease tool selected, right-click the crease, and specify the transition length. If the subdivision topology does not support transitions, the tool displays edges in red. After a successful conversion, creases appear green (see Modifying the gradient between creased and uncreased areas).
Adjust crease sharpness
You can vary the intensity of the subdivision creases with the Sharpness setting. By default, full creases have a value of 1. Decreasing the sharpness will soften the crease, while increasing the value will exaggerate it.
Shaping creases by offsetting
The Bias parameter allows you to shape the crease by offsetting its position to the left or right of the centerline of the edge. Create undercuts in your subdivision models using Bias with high definition values.
6. Alias-Dynamo improvements and additions
The new Alias-Dynamo node allows you to add more functionality and usability to custom Dynamo player scripts. For example, you can now add dropdown lists, radio buttons, and feedback messages, as well as create scripts that modify existing Alias geometry. We’ve also added new Dynamo Player example scripts to the Dynamo Player Toolbox. You’ll also notice that the Alias-Dynamo user interface has been refreshed with a new look and feel.
7. Multiple improvements to measurement and deviation tools
In Alias 2023, we continue to improve the measurement and deviation locator tools. Making them more interactive and easier to use.
8. Subdivisions now exposed in the Alias API
Autodesk We added two new Subdiv classes to the Alias API: AlSubdiv and AlSubdivNode.
AlSubdiv – Allows you to create and manipulate subdivision objects.
AlSubdivNode – Allows you to access and manipulate subdivision objects in an Alias DAG.
